Sundance Yacht Sales would like to thank everyone who participated in this years Nautilus Marine Insurance Melbourne Beneteau Yacht Regatta on Saturday 8th March. The event went off without a hitch with 30 crews attending a light lunch service at Sandringham Yacht Club, before heading out for the race to Station Pier. There was quite close racing throughout the field in the light breeze, enabling a social feel to the race.
Two sailing divisions were involved, made up of Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker. Line honours in spinnaker division was taken out by the 40.7 Reverie from Brighton. Handicap places were very interesting with the late sea breeze aiding the smaller yachts in the fleet. One of the oldest yachts in the division, Ubique was placed first after taking advantage of the stronger winds. In second place was the 27.7 Flirteuse from Geelong and third was Fleeka the 35s5 from Sandringham.
In the Non-spinnaker division Primo a First 36.7 from Sandringham was first across the line. Handicap honours collected by Play a First 27.7 also from Sandringham, second place was awarded to the line honours recipient Primo and third by French Kiss a 32s5 also from Sandringham. Overall all crews had a very enjoyable race.
After the race 29 yachts made their way in a convoy down the Yarra River to Waterfront City Docklands, were they were greeted with drinks and nibbles. After a couple of hours socialising on the marina, crews made their way up to the Melbourne Yacht Club Hotel for a very enjoyable dinner, with live music and a great view of Melbourne. The party lasted long into the night.
Once again we at Sundance would like to thank all those who helped in organisation and attendance of the Regatta, and hope that we can see everyone at next year’s event.
